The David Jon Louison Center is a non-profit organization that provides services to families experiencing homelessness.. The program's three properties provide a home-like atmosphere for parents and their children - from newborns to eighteen years old.  Named in memory of David Jon Louison, the five-year-old son of a prominent Brockton attorney, the center became part of part of the Old Colony Y on July 1, 2006.

In addition to providing shelter for families, the Center promotes self-sufficiency by providing case management and support services, including clinical services, workforce development, life skill building, financial literacy and parenting support.

Referrals for families living at the Center come from the Department of Transitional Assistance.

Services Offered:

  • 24 hour emergency shelter
  • Emergency needs (food, shelter, clothing, etc.)
  • Case management services
  • Self-sufficiency planning with individualized treatment plans
  • Job/educational/career services
  • Life skills training
  • Financial Literacy classes
  • Parent support group
  • Stress management workshops
  • Assistance with housing search and support
  • Mental health services
  • Coordination of care/referrals to community services
  • Special events, such as community dinners, field trips, service projects, family nights, etc.

Programs for Children

  • Assistance with registration of children into schools
  • After school programs including individual and group mentoring, arts and crafts and life skills building
  • Assisting with accessing child care and summer camp
  • Partnership with Early Intervention (children ages 0 - 3)
  • Special events - fun activities, YMCA activities, "Fun Friday" projects, monthly birthday parties, etc.
  • Weekly programming with mentors from Horizons for Homeless Children and tutors for School on Wheels
