When children are hurt or neglected by the people caring for them, DSS offers assistance to these youngsters and their family members.

DSS responds to reports of abuse or neglect 24 hours a day.  The Department of Social Services becomes involved if there is any concern that a caretaker, a parent, stepparent, guardian or other person responsible for a child may be abusing or neglecting a child.  Teachers, day care providers and babysitters and others outside the family may have strong concerns about a child's welfare.
