As of August, 2008 this shelter was closed, and the South Middlesex Opportunity Council was searching for a replacement location. The shelter closed in October, 2007 when SMOC, the Framingham-based agency that had recently taken it over, determined that the condition of the building was unacceptable for human habitation.Families using the shelter were moved to "scattered sites," and to address what SMOC called a "gap" in local services when Winter Haven closed, they opened the Milford Resource Center at 204A Main St. The office serves many of the people Winter Haven worked with: people searching for shelter, foreclosure prevention, fuel assistance and ordinary items such as school supplies and backpacks. The center coordinates services with other agencies in town, such as the state Department of Transitional Assistance, the Salvation Army, and WIC, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.People needing help can call 508-478-2333.If you have additional/updated information on this shelter, please email info@sharingweb.org
