Domestic Violence
Shelters Overwhelmed
Over 5,000 victims turned away annually
Domestic violence shelters across Massachusetts are becoming
overwhelmed and are increasingly turning victims away, driving
some of those seeking help back to abusive partners or to the
streets, according to advocates and shelter program directors.
The number of victims being turned away from shelters is
skyrocketing, from 1,374 in 2003 to over 5,500 in 2005.
